How it works

Add a name and a birthday, with the year if you know it. The wheel is the whole year: twelve months around a ring, a mark for each birthday, and a needle at today. The 30 days ahead of the needle are tinted, and the middle says who's next and how old they're turning. Without a year, there's no age, just the date.

Someone born on February 29 is marked on February 28 in the three years out of four that don't have one.

"Add all to your calendar" downloads one calendar file. Each birthday becomes an all-day event that repeats every year, with a reminder at 9 AM on the day, the day before or a week before. Open the file and your calendar does the reminding from then on. Leap-day birthdays are written as four events that each repeat every four years, because the calendar standard (RFC 5545) skips a yearly February 29 in common years. Google Calendar imports files on a computer and may use its own notification settings.

You can also import birthdays from a contacts file (.vcf). Only names and birthdays are read. Everything stays in this browser on this device.

Questions people ask

How do I get birthday reminders without Facebook?
Keep the birthdays in a list of your own and put them in the calendar you already use, which then reminds you every year. Facebook stopped offering its birthday calendar export around June 2019, so the list has to come from you or from your contacts. This page imports a contacts file (.vcf) and makes one calendar file with every birthday, repeating yearly, with a reminder.
When does someone born on February 29 celebrate?
In common years, on February 28 or March 1, depending on the person; this list marks February 28. The law differs by place: Hong Kong's Age of Majority (Related Provisions) Ordinance counts March 1, while the statute for England and Wales only says a person reaches an age at the start of their birthday's anniversary.
How do I add all the birthdays to my calendar?
Press "Add all to your calendar" and open the file it downloads. Each birthday becomes an all-day event that repeats every year, with a reminder at 9 AM. Google Calendar imports files on a computer (Settings, then Import and export), and may use its own notification settings instead of the file's reminder.
Can I import birthdays from my contacts?
Yes, from a contacts file (.vcf). Export one from Google Contacts or from Contacts on a Mac (File, Export, Export vCard), then choose "Import from contacts". Only names and birthdays are read, and birthdays saved without a year come in without an age.
Where is my list kept?
Only in this browser on this device; we never see it. Use "Your data" to export a copy or move it to another device.
