How it works
Paste your list, one card per line with the term first and the meaning after a comma, tab, dash, colon, semicolon or pipe, and the page makes a deck. Study the cards that are due: look at the term, press Show answer, then choose Again, Hard, Good or Easy. Under each button is the number of days until the card comes back.
The schedule is SM-2, the algorithm Piotr Wozniak published for SuperMemo. A card you pass returns after 1 day, then 6, then each gap is multiplied by the card's ease factor (2.5 to start, never below 1.3). Again starts the card over. A card you answered Again or Hard today is asked again today until you answer Good or Easy, as SM-2 says.
When nothing is left, the page says "Done for today" and lists the dates the cards return. There are no scores or streaks. A new day starts at 4 AM. Decks stay in this browser on this device; export a text file for Anki, or a CSV with every card's dates.
Questions people ask
- How does the spacing work?
- It uses SM-2, Piotr Wozniak's algorithm: a card you pass comes back after 1 day, then 6 days, then each gap is multiplied by the card's ease factor, which starts at 2.5 and falls to as low as 1.3 if you keep finding it hard. Again starts the card over without changing its ease factor. The four buttons map to SM-2's grades 1, 3, 4 and 5, and the number of days is shown under each button.
- Does spacing work better than cramming?
- In a meta-analysis of "839 assessments of distributed practice in 317 experiments located in 184 articles", spreading practice beat massing it, and "the ISI producing maximal retention increased as retention interval increased." Those were verbal recall tasks in the lab, so treat it as the reason for the method, not a promise about your results.
- How do I make flashcards from a list?
- Paste one card per line, the term then the meaning, separated by a comma, tab, semicolon, pipe, colon or " - ". Two spreadsheet columns paste as tab-separated text, and Anki's plain-text exports work as they are. The first separator on each line splits it, so a meaning can contain commas.
- When does a new day start?
- At 4 AM, like Anki: "The default setting of 4AM ensures that if you're studying around midnight, you won't have two days' worth of cards shown to you in one session."
- Can I move my cards to Anki?
- Yes: "Download for Anki" gives a UTF-8 text file with a tab between the two sides and "#separator:tab" at the top. Anki imports files with fields "separated by commas, semicolons or tabs" through File, then Import. Schedules stay in this page: plain text can't carry them.
