How it works
Your pet has three needs, Fed, Fun and Rest, each from 0 to 100. While it's awake, they fall at a steady rate an hour; while it sleeps, rest climbs back and the others barely move. The page doesn't count ticks: it remembers when it last looked and works out what happened since, so a pet in a tab you closed last Tuesday is exactly where it would have been if you'd left the tab open.
It sleeps from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM your time unless you change it. Fed and Fun stop falling at 15, so the worst a long absence does is make it sad, and one Feed and one Play fix that. It can't die or get sick.
It grows on days you looked after it: baby for two days, child until the eighth day, then adult. Days away don't count for or against. These numbers are our own choices, not a copy of any toy. Your pet is saved only in this browser.
Questions people ask
- Is there a Tamagotchi that doesn't die?
- This one. Pixel pet can't die, get sick or run away: if you're away it gets sad, and a feed and a play make it content again. The 1996 original could die of old age at around 28 days, according to Mental Floss quoting Wired; owners say current colour models have no age limit.
- What happens if I don't open it for days?
- It keeps living on your clock: it sleeps each night, gets hungry and bored, and stops at "very hungry" and "very bored" rather than getting worse. Nothing is lost and it never goes back a stage; days away just aren't counted as days of care.
- When does it sleep?
- From 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM your time unless you change it in Settings. It can't be fed or played with while asleep, and it never falls asleep partway through play.
- How long until it grows up?
- Eight days with care: baby until the third, child until the eighth. These numbers are ours.
- Does it send notifications?
- No. It never asks for permission, and it makes no sound.
