How it works
Type what you spent and tap what it was for. Each entry is saved on this device with its day; nothing is sent anywhere, and nothing connects to your bank.
The chart is the month as a running total. The dashed line is last month, from the 1st to its last day. The solid line is this month, up to today. The gap between them on today's date is the answer at the top: how far ahead of, or behind, last month you are at the same point.
"The same point" means the same day of the month, counting whole days on both sides. If today's date doesn't exist in last month (March 30 after a 28-day February), the comparison is with all of last month. If you started logging partway through last month, the page says so and gives no verdict.
Categories are yours to rename, reorder and add to. Export everything as a CSV for a spreadsheet, or as a file to keep.
Questions people ask
- What happened to Mint?
- Intuit shut Mint down: users lost access on March 23, 2024, and were invited to move to Credit Karma. NerdWallet reports that Credit Karma kept spending and net worth tracking but not monthly budgets or custom categories.
- Why doesn't this connect to my bank?
- Because it has no server to keep bank logins on, and your entries never leave this device. Typing each amount takes two taps; bank-linked apps cost money and, as their reviews show, their connections drop or lag.
- How is "last month's pace" worked out?
- It's last month's total up to the same day of the month as today. If today's date doesn't exist in last month (March 30 after February), the comparison is with all of last month. Both sides count whole days.
- How much does a typical household spend on food?
- In 2024, US households (consumer units) spent on average $6,224 a year on food at home and $3,945 on food away from home, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That's an average across all households, not a target.
- Can I get my entries into a spreadsheet?
- Yes. Settings has "Export as a spreadsheet (CSV)", which opens in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets, one row per entry.
